Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has unveiled Hajia Zeinab Ibrahim, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Leader for the Northeast, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.
Kefas announced Ibrahim’s candidacy on Friday at the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo during a visit by the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, who was in the state to mark his 58th birthday.
The choice of Ibrahim had generated speculation within APC circles in recent weeks before the governor confirmed it at the event.
Ibrahim is the younger sister of the late Senator Jummai Al-Hassan, popularly known as Mama Taraba.
Welcoming Yilwatda and other guests, Kefas pointed to Ibrahim and introduced her as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.

The announcement was greeted with cheers from party supporters at the gathering.
Kefas Backs APC Alignment
Kefas also used the occasion to praise Yilwatda for bringing a medical outreach team to Taraba as part of his birthday activities.
He said the medical team, known as “Doctors for Free Treatment and Surgeries”, had provided treatment and surgeries to residents of the state.
The governor said his administration was fully aligning with the APC, citing what he described as President Bola Tinubu’s support for Taraba.
“What President Tinubu has done for the people of Taraba cannot be quantified. Mr. President has recently approved an Army Division for us. That alone is capable of stabilising the lives of our people,” Kefas said.
He added that the APC had established a strong political presence across the state.
“Here in Taraba, we in APC are not contesting elections with anybody. We only have people participating in elections with us. We have declared APC from top to bottom,” the governor stated.
Yilwatda Promises Support
Yilwatda said he chose Taraba for his birthday celebration to demonstrate the APC’s commitment to the people of the state.
He said the party’s activities should go beyond seeking electoral support to addressing the needs of Nigerians.
“I chose to celebrate my birthday here to provide medical support to the people of the state. Our party is not just a party that seeks votes. It is about justice, peace and unity,” Yilwatda said.
