FSI Expands Tech Mentorship Programme to Kano University

Financial Services Innovators (FSI), in partnership with Mentors Without Borders (MWB), has expanded its one-year Tech Mentorship Programme to Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, Kano State.

The initiative is designed to equip university students with practical technology skills, industry knowledge and professional mentorship to improve their employability and career prospects in the global digital economy.

Under the programme, participating students will receive one-on-one mentorship from professionals working at leading global technology companies, including Microsoft and Atlassian.

The sessions will provide industry insights, career guidance and practical exposure to technology work environments.

To commence the programme, FSI’s Community Manager, Olaolu Olowe, on Monday, August 3, presented a Starlink Standard Internet Kit with a six-month subscription and 10 Logitech headsets to the Vice-Chancellor of ADUSTECH, Professor Musa Tukur Yakasai.

The presentation was witnessed by Professor Bashir Muhammad, Director of Distance Learning at the university.

The equipment was donated by Mentors Without Borders to provide the digital infrastructure required for virtual mentoring sessions between students and their international mentors.

According to FSI, the one-year programme will expose students to technology and technology-enabled career paths including software engineering, artificial intelligence and machine learning, data engineering and data science, cloud computing, cybersecurity, DevOps and site reliability engineering.

Students will also receive exposure to product management, technical programme management, technical sales, customer success management, solutions engineering and business programme management.

Speaking on the expansion, the Executive Director of FSI, Dr Aituaz Kola-Oladejo, said the organisation was focused on strengthening Nigeria’s technology talent pipeline.

“FSI is committed to nation building, and technology is our language to create a united front among Nigerian youth while investing in their future. We commenced this programme at Thomas Adewunmi University and subsequently expanded it to Trinity University, Yaba.

“Aliko Dangote University is the third university where we will be implementing this programme, and we look forward to extending the initiative to many more institutions across Nigeria,” she said.

The Founder of Mentors Without Borders, Edmond Pruteanu, expressed that the partnership would give students access to experienced professionals and global career perspectives.

“Talent is everywhere, but opportunities are not. Through this program, we are connecting university students with experienced professionals from leading companies around the world, giving them access to knowledge, mentorship, and global perspectives that can help shape their careers. We believe that a single mentor can inspire a student to achieve far more than they ever thought possible,” he said.

Also speaking, the Director of Distance Learning at ADUSTECH, Professor Bashir Muhammad, expressed the university’s support for the programme and its potential impact on participating students.

“The excitement and enthusiasm of the students at ADUSTECH say it all. I truly believe that with this structured FSI/MWB programme, it is only a matter of time before some of these beneficiaries become CTOs, founders, and global technology leaders, making Nigeria proud,” Muhammad said.

The expansion to ADUSTECH is part of FSI’s broader programme to connect Nigerian students with global mentors, learning opportunities and practical experiences while strengthening links between universities and industry.

FSI added that its partnership with Mentors Without Borders would support the development of technology talent and prepare young Nigerians for opportunities in the global technology economy.
