Chad will remove visa requirements for citizens of all African countries from January 1, 2027, President Mahamat Idriss Déby has announced.
Déby said the decision was aimed at strengthening African unity and promoting easier movement of people and goods across the continent.
The policy will allow African nationals to enter Chad without obtaining a visa, making the country one of the latest African nations to adopt a blanket visa-free entry arrangement for citizens of the continent.
With the announcement, Chad becomes the eighth African country to introduce a visa-free policy for all African nationals.
Other countries with similar arrangements include Benin Republic, The Gambia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Ghana, Kenya and Togo.

Togo announced in May that African travellers with valid passports could enter the country without a visa for up to 30 days.
Déby said Chad’s decision was part of efforts to make the free movement of Africans across the continent a practical reality.
The move is also expected to ease travel and strengthen economic and social ties between Chad and other African countries.
