Two Nigerian nationals are set to face trial in Ghana over the alleged murder of a fellow Nigerian in what investigators believe was a dispute over proceeds from suspected internet fraud activities.
The suspects, identified as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, were arrested by the Northern Regional Police Command after the body of Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze, 36, was discovered in his apartment at Sanzirigu, a suburb of Tamale.
According to the Ghana Police Service, officers launched an investigation after receiving a report that the victim had been found lying in a pool of blood inside his bedroom.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased lived in a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects, and another Nigerian identified as Godwin Nwafor.
Crime scene investigators found the victim with a deep cut to his forehead and a towel forced into his mouth. The room also appeared to have been ransacked.
Police recovered a wooden pestle believed to have been used in the attack, along with other exhibits that have been sent for forensic examination.
The victim was rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His body has since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary pending an autopsy.
Suspects Arrested While Allegedly Fleeing
Police said intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of the two suspects later the same day in Tatale as they allegedly attempted to escape through the Ghana-Togo border.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to conspiring to kill the victim, claiming he had withheld money generated from their suspected internet fraud operations.

A search conducted by investigators reportedly led to the recovery of several items believed to have been stolen from the victim’s room, including mobile phones, laptop computers, a tablet, jewellery, wristwatches, clothing, personal documents and other valuables.
The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned as investigations continue.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all those connected with the alleged crime are brought to justice and appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could assist the ongoing investigation.
