Soyinka Rebukes Trump Over Threat of Military Action in Nigeria

Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka has condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat of possible military action in Nigeria, describing the remark as reckless and dismissive of the country’s complex security challenges.

Speaking in Makurdi on Friday after a meeting with Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, Soyinka said leaders must show respect when commenting on situations they barely understand.

“You don’t just open your mouth and say, ‘I’m coming to help you whether you like it or not.’ With poor, almost non-existent analysis, you say you’re coming with ‘guns blazing’. At least respect those finding solutions to this unacceptable situation,” he said.

Soyinka stressed that every government has the duty to protect its citizens and that victims of insecurity deserve dignity, not political grandstanding.
