The Nigerian Army has assured residents of the South-East of their safety following the circulation of a fake “sit-at-home” order online.
Authorities urged citizens to continue their daily activities and report any suspicious individuals for prompt action.
Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 82 Division, said the message was intended to create fear, disrupt livelihoods, and destabilise the region.

He emphasised that such threats are baseless and will not affect law-abiding citizens.
“The 82 Division, alongside the Police and other security agencies, has deployed robust measures to protect lives, property, and critical infrastructure, ensuring freedom of movement and the uninterrupted conduct of lawful activities,” the statement said.

Residents are therefore encouraged to go about their duties without fear, as the army maintains a continuous presence to safeguard the region.
