Army Debunks Claims of Using Old Photos in Kogi Rescue Operation

The Nigerian Army has dismissed social media claims alleging that images released from its recent rescue mission in Kogi State were old.

In a statement on Tuesday, the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army maintained that the photos published from the operation were authentic and taken during the mission on November 2, 2025.

According to the statement signed by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the images came directly from troops deployed to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Oguma.

“The images in question are authentic and were captured during the operation conducted on 2 November 2025,” Abdullahi stated.

He added that the photographs contain verifiable geolocation data confirming they were taken at Achigili Forest, where troops rescued two kidnapped victims and recovered a ransom.

The Army described the online claims as false and aimed at discrediting its personnel and undermining public trust.

It further stressed that it follows strict verification protocols before releasing photos and videos to the public.

The military urged Nigerians to disregard the misinformation and continue supporting security forces with credible intel in the fight against crime in Kogi and across the country.
