Dantawaye Miller Takes Charge as FCT Police Commissioner

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the assumption of office by Commissioner of Police (CP) Dantawaye Miller, as the 34th Commissioner of Police, FCT Command.

Miller takes over from CP Ajao S. Adewale, who has been redeployed to another strategic position by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM.

A seasoned police officer with over two decades of meritorious service, CP Dantawaye Miller brings with him a blend of operational experience, professional discipline, and strategic leadership.

Born on October 15, 1971, in Afogo, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, CP Miller is the son of the late Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Gajere Dantawaye, from whom he drew early inspiration for his career in the police force.

He began his education at St. Williams Primary School, Ilorin, before moving to Nuhu Primary School, Kankiya, in Katsina State. He attended Government College, Katsina, and later Federal Government College, Enugu, where he obtained his Senior School Certificate in 1989.

An avid learner, CP Miller holds a Diploma in Business Administration from Kaduna State Polytechnic, a B.Sc. in International Studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master’s Degree in International Studies from the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.

He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in May 2,000 and began his policing career at the Bayelsa State Police Command in 2002.

Since then, he has served in several key command and strategic roles, including:

  • Divisional Crime Officer, ‘A’ Division, Yenagoa
  • Acting Aide-de-Camp to the Governor of Bayelsa State
  • Escort Commander to the Vice President
  • Chief Security Officer, Ministry of Petroleum
  • Commanding Officer, MOPOL 24, Presidential Villa
  • Escort Commander to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

He also served as Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) in the FCT Command; Area Commander, Karewa, Adamawa State; Assistant Commissioner (CID), Oyo State; and Deputy Commissioner (Operations) in both Yobe and Edo State Commands.

Before his current posting, he was the Commissioner of Police, Information Technology Department, at Force Headquarters, Abuja, and later served as Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command.

Throughout his career, CP Miller has pursued professional development both locally and internationally. He attended the Combat Operations and Counter-Terrorism Course in Gwoza, Maiduguri, Leadership and Tactical Training at Shere Hills, Jos, VVIP Protection Course in Ginegal, Israel, and the Strategic Leadership and Command Course at the Police Staff College, Jos.

He is an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and an active Member of Rotary International, where he is widely respected among his peers.

On assuming office, CP Miller pledged to strengthen the FCT’s security framework, emphasizing collaboration, intelligence-driven operations, and community partnership as cornerstones of his administration.

“Our policing strategy will focus on prevention, quick response, and community trust. We will deepen our engagement with residents and strengthen intelligence networks to ensure that Abuja remains one of the safest capitals in Africa,” he said.

The FCT Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, urged residents to continue supporting the police in the collective effort to maintain peace and security across the nation’s capital.

“Security is a shared responsibility. We encourage residents to share timely information with the police and remain vigilant as we work together to safeguard the FCT,”
