Nigeria Advances Trade Digitisation as Cargo Manifests Go Live on National Single Window

Nigeria has taken a major step in modernising its trade ecosystem, as global logistics firm DHL, alongside key regulatory agencies, successfully commenced the electronic submission and transmission of cargo manifests through the National Single Window.

The rollout, involving the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), and National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), marks a significant milestone following the platform’s official go-live.

During live demonstrations at DHL’s facility at Lagos airport and the NSW operations hub in Apapa, stakeholders witnessed real-time processing of cargo documentation, seamless data transmission across border systems, and accurate generation of rotation numbers.

Despite minor technical hitches and temporary network delays, the system recorded a successful launch, reinforcing confidence in its readiness.

Director of the NSW project, Tola Fakolade, said the platform has now transitioned fully into operations.

The Deputy Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service in charge of ICT and Modernisation, Oluyomi Adebakin, described the development as a landmark achievement under the Federal Government of Nigeria, aimed at improving trade efficiency and economic outcomes.

Also supporting the initiative, the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority, Abubakar Dantsoho, said the platform will cut bureaucratic bottlenecks and ease documentation processes for port users.

At the aviation level, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria highlighted expected gains in cargo efficiency, security, and reduced dwell time.

With its first successful transactions completed, the National Single Window signals a new era for Nigeria’s trade system—driven by speed, transparency, coordination, and global competitiveness.
