The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has uncovered a disturbing case of alleged unlawful detention and inhumane treatment, rescuing a 36-year-old woman, Grace Aniekuoku, who was reportedly chained and locked inside a room for more than one year and four months.
The operation, carried out by officers of the Katampe Division, followed a distress report that prompted a swift response to a residential premises within the area. On arrival, officers reportedly forced entry into the building, where they discovered the victim in a severely weakened and emaciated condition.
According to police sources, the woman had been confined in a filthy environment and was allegedly forced to live in her own waste under extremely poor sanitary conditions, raising serious concerns over prolonged neglect and possible abuse.
The suspect, identified as her brother, Chinedu Aniekuoko, was immediately arrested at the scene. He is currently in police custody as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The victim was promptly evacuated and rushed to a medical facility, where she is receiving urgent treatment due to her critical condition.
Preliminary findings by investigators further suggest a broader dimension to the case. Police say the victim’s son was reportedly taken to an unknown location approximately two years ago, and efforts are now ongoing to trace the child and determine what happened.
