The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), Jude Chiemeka, has been elected President of the African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA), effective September 30, 2026.
Chiemeka, who also chairs the West African Capital Markets Integration Council (WACMIC), succeeds Pierre Célestin Rwabukumba, CEO of the Rwanda Stock Exchange.
His appointment comes as ASEA seeks to deepen integration and strengthen collaboration among African capital markets, with a focus on improving market liquidity, strengthening regional connectivity, accelerating technology adoption and promoting cross-border capital flows.
Chiemeka brings 30 years of capital markets experience.
Chiemeka has more than 30 years of experience across the capital markets, including securities trading, asset management and investment banking.
Over the course of his career, he has been involved in regional market initiatives and major capital market transactions, positioning him to lead ASEA’s efforts to build stronger connections among African exchanges.
Commenting on his appointment, Chiemeka described the role as a privilege at a time when market integration and technology-driven innovation are becoming increasingly important to Africa’s economic development.

“It is a privilege to lead the African Securities Exchanges Association at a time when capital market integration and technology-driven innovation are paramount to unlocking Africa’s economic potential,” Chiemeka said.
“Building on the solid foundation laid by my predecessor, Mr Pierre Célestin Rwabukumba, ASEA will continue to advocate for stronger cross-border investment frameworks, deeper liquidity pools, and sustainable finance initiatives across our member exchanges,” he added.
Rwabukumba congratulates the successor.
In his outgoing address, Rwabukumba reflected on his tenure and the progress made in strengthening cooperation among African exchanges.
“Leading ASEA has been an honour, and I am proud of the progress we have made in bringing African exchanges closer together,” he said.
“I extend my warmest congratulations to Jude Chiemeka. His extensive leadership across both the Nigerian market and WACMIC makes him exceptionally qualified to guide ASEA into its next chapter of growth,” Rwabukumba added.
Cross-border trading, digital innovation, top agenda
Under Chiemeka’s presidency, ASEA will focus on deepening cross-border market integration by facilitating inter-exchange trading and cross-listing across African jurisdictions.
The association will also prioritise digital innovation through the adoption of financial technology and modern market infrastructure. The goal is to improve operational efficiency and expand access to capital markets, particularly for retail investors.
Another priority will be increasing capital mobility by strengthening connections with global institutional investors while encouraging greater participation by local investors.
ASEA also plans to promote sustainable finance by supporting efforts to standardise environmental, social and governance (ESG) frameworks and expand green bond listings across member exchanges.
Chiemeka’s appointment is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s role in efforts to integrate African capital markets and build a more connected investment environment across the continent.
