Tinubu Swears in Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance

President Bola Tinubu on Monday swore in Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance during a brief ceremony at the State House.

The oath of office was administered in the president’s first-floor office, formally ushering Oyedele into the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

Oyedele’s appointment followed a minor cabinet reshuffle in which the former Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, was redeployed as Minister of State for Budget and National Planning.

The new posting marks Uzoka-Anite’s third portfolio in the Tinubu administration.

Role in Fiscal Reforms

With his swearing-in, Oyedele is expected to support the administration’s fiscal management and economic reform agenda.

Before his nomination as minister about two weeks ago, the 50-year-old served as chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, a body set up in 2024 by President Tinubu to review Nigeria’s tax administration and fiscal policy framework.

The committee developed proposals aimed at simplifying the tax system, improving compliance and increasing government revenue.

Nigerian Senate had on Wednesday commenced the screening of Taiwo Oyedele, barely 24 hours after Bola Ahmed Tinubu wrote to the Senate requesting the screening and confirmation of Oyedele to join the Federal Executive Council, replacing Doris Uzoka-Anite.
