Tinubu Nominates Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, Redeploys Doris Anite-Uzoka

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as Nigeria’s new Minister of State for Finance, signaling a strategic move to strengthen the administration’s fiscal reform agenda.

Oyedele replaces Dr. Doris Anite-Uzoka, who has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking her third ministerial portfolio under the current administration.

The President formally communicated Oyedele’s nomination to the Senate for confirmation in a letter addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday.

Profile of the New Minister

Taiwo Oyedele, 50, is an accomplished economist, accountant, and public policy expert with over two decades of experience in both public and private sectors. An indigene of Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, he previously served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, leading a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s tax system as part of the administration’s broader fiscal reform drive.

Oyedele holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology, and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University, UK. He has also completed executive programmes at prestigious institutions, including the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Before his ministerial nomination, Oyedele spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), joining the firm in 2001 and rising to the position of Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. In this role, he advised governments and multinational corporations on tax policy, fiscal strategy, and revenue mobilisation, earning a reputation as a leading authority on economic policy in Africa.

In addition to his professional achievements, Oyedele serves as a professor at Babcock University, Ogun State, and is a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School, where he contributes to academic research and policy development in finance and taxation.

Expected Impact

Oyedele’s appointment is expected to reinforce the administration’s efforts in fiscal consolidation, tax reforms, and economic coordination. Observers note that his blend of technical expertise, private-sector experience, and academic insight positions him to play a pivotal role in driving revenue mobilisation and enhancing the efficiency of Nigeria’s financial governance, pending Senate approval.

Dr. Doris Anite-Uzoka, whose redeployment to Budget and National Planning consolidates her extensive ministerial experience, will now focus on supporting national planning, budgeting, and policy implementation efforts across critical sectors.

The nomination of Oyedele underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to leveraging seasoned professionals to advance Nigeria’s fiscal stability and economic growth while ensuring continuity in key reform initiatives.
