The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has appointed former Cross River State Governor and ex-presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Donald Duke, as Chairman of its newly established Leadership Forum.
Duke, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was appointed during an enlarged stakeholders’ and executive committee meeting of the ADC in Cross River State.
A communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and signed by the state chairman, Dr John Ogar, described the Leadership Forum as the highest non-elective advisory organ of the party.
According to the communiqué, the creation of the forum was considered necessary to strengthen the party’s leadership structure and would be made up of respected members with proven integrity and leadership experience.

The party explained that the forum is expected to provide strategic guidance and oversight to the ADC leadership across the state.
Stakeholders at the meeting unanimously endorsed Duke as chairman of the forum, tasking him with oversight responsibilities across the state’s three senatorial districts.
In addition, three party elders were appointed to oversee the senatorial districts. Chief Ray Ugba Morphy was named for the Northern Senatorial District, Chief Akin Ricketts, former chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority, for the Central District, while Dr Effiong Nyong, a former ADC governorship candidate, was appointed for the Southern District.
The meeting also resolved to intensify the party’s membership drive, with a target of registering at least one million voters ahead of the next general elections.
Furthermore, the party vowed to enforce internal discipline, warning that its constitution would be applied to any member, irrespective of status, found engaging in actions capable of undermining the party’s growth.
