Trump Says U.S. Forces ‘Annihilating’ Terrorists in Nigeria

United States President Donald Trump claimed on Thursday that American forces are “annihilating” terrorists in Nigeria. He accused these groups of killing Christians in large numbers.

“Many good things are happening,” Trump said at the Board of Peace signing ceremony on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos. “We’ve hit them very hard. They’ve killed thousands and thousands of Christians.”

Nigerian authorities have consistently rejected this framing. The government says terrorism and violent extremism affect all communities, including Muslims and Christians.

National security officials NSA Nuhu Ribadu, Defence Minister General Christopher Gwabin Musa, Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede, and Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun have stressed that Nigeria’s crisis stems from terrorism, banditry, and organised crime, not a singular religious conflict.

Board of Peace and Global Security
Trump emphasised the importance of the newly launched Board of Peace initiative. He said more countries are expected to join soon, linking its work to challenges in Nigeria and the Middle East.

He also spoke about Gaza, warning militant groups to disarm and insisting the territory must be rebuilt. “If Hamas doesn’t do what they promised, they must lay down arms, or it’ll end them,” he said.

“The Board of Peace is gaining global attention,” Trump added. “Everyone wants to be on it. These are just the countries here now; many more will join.”
