The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) destroyed counterfeit, expired, and substandard products valued at over ₦5 billion in Nasarawa State on Thursday. The move aims to protect Nigerians from unsafe consumer goods.
The items, seized from Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger, and Plateau States, were dismantled and set ablaze at the Angwan Rere dumpsite in Lafia.
Prof. Christianah Adeyeye, NAFDAC Director-General, represented by North-Central Zonal Director Kenneth Azikiwe, said the agency seized the products during routine inspections. Some traders voluntarily surrendered expired or compromised goods.

“The destruction prevents these products from re-entering the market or harming public health,” Adeyeye said. She urged Nigerians to report anyone producing or selling fake items and stressed that NAFDAC will continue fighting counterfeiters.
She also reminded manufacturers and distributors to follow Good Distribution and Storage Practices to maintain product quality until sale.
Nasarawa State Commissioner for Security and Safety Matters, Usman Baba, praised NAFDAC’s efforts and assured continued state support to ensure residents receive only genuine products.
