Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola, popularly known as FRYO, has clinched the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the August 8, 2026, governorship election in Osun State.
The primary election was held on Tuesday in Osogbo under tight security.
Announcing the outcome, the chairman of the PDP primary election committee, Humphrey Abba, said Adedamola secured 919 votes out of 957 accredited ballots, securing an overwhelming victory.
He noted that 20 votes were declared void following the withdrawal of one of the aspirants, believed to be Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“The candidate that got the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes, and he stands elected and returned,” Abba said.

Although Governor Adeleke had resigned from the PDP, his name still appeared on the ballot. Party officials explained that the primary was conducted in line with established guidelines, with accredited delegates participating as required.
Adeleke resigned from the PDP in a letter dated November 4, 2025, addressed to his ward leadership.
Despite the development, the Osun PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi, announced on Monday that the primary scheduled for Tuesday had been postponed due to the leadership crisis at the national level.
However, a faction of the party proceeded with the exercise in Osogbo on Tuesday.
