South Africa’s Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, has dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims of a “genocide” against White Afrikaners as false and inflammatory.
Speaking during his medium-term budget update on Wednesday, Godongwana said South Africa has been “falsely accused of genocide against its white community and threatened with sanctions based on lies.”
His comment comes days after Trump announced that the U.S. would boycott the upcoming G20 summit in Johannesburg, citing claims of persecution and land seizures targeting White farmers.

Trump’s remarks add to months of criticism of South Africa’s coalition government, particularly over its decision to accuse Israel of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza before the United Nations’ top court.
Godongwana condemned Washington’s spread of “fear and misinformation,” praising Afrikaner groups that have publicly denounced Trump’s comments as “unpatriotic propaganda.”
The South African government and numerous civic organisations have repeatedly rejected the genocide allegations, reaffirming the country’s commitment to racial equality and social cohesion.
