Agric Ministry Drives Ethical Culture, Skills Upgrade for Staff

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has partnered with Azleems Global Investment to train staff on workplace ethics, emotional intelligence, and performance-driven service delivery in support of Nigeria’s agricultural transformation agenda.

The capacity-building workshop in Abuja targeted officers on Grade Levels 07 to 12 as part of the ministry’s Culture Change Management Initiative, aligned with the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025.

Representing the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi, Assistant Director (Training), Alhaji Hamza Musa, urged participants to embrace service excellence and leverage the training to improve productivity and professionalism.

The programme was led by Head of Civil Service EPIC Award recipient, Dr. Oluwabamidele Kogbe, who guided officers on core EPIC values Efficiency, Productivity, Incorruptibility, and Citizen-Centred Service. Other trainers included Mrs. Nancy Usman, Uche Kene-Okoye, Mrs. Funmi Salawu, and Mr. Saidu Ibrahim.

Sessions covered emotional intelligence, performance-based management, ethics in public service, and practical demonstrations on digital tools, AI adoption, and policy research through ServiceWise GPT.

The workshop emphasised technology-driven efficiency, ethical conduct, and improved service delivery in the agricultural sector, with global best-practice examples shared to enhance learning.

In a communiqué, participants commended Ministers Senator Abubakar Kyari and Senator Aliyu Abdullahi, Permanent Secretary Dr. Marcus Olaniyi Ogunbiyi, and the HR Department for prioritizing staff capacity and strengthening a results-oriented civil service.

They recommended expanding the training across all cadres and establishing an Employee Assistance Programme to support staff mental health.

Participants also reaffirmed their commitment to the EPIC values and pledged to contribute to the ministry’s mandate of food security and sustainable agricultural development.
