Fubara Explains Visit to Tinubu After Resumption

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has explained that his recent visit to President Bola Tinubu was to formally notify him of his return to office following the lifting of his suspension.

The governor, who had been out of office for six months following the declaration of emergency rule in the state, was reinstated last week.

He resumed duty on September 19, two days after the suspension was lifted.

Speaking to journalists at the State House on Monday evening after a closed-door meeting with the president, Fubara described the engagement as a “father-and-son discussion.”

According to him, the visit was also an opportunity to seek guidance from the president on how best to steer the state without falling back into political crisis.

“You are aware that the suspension was lifted midnight, 17th, and I resumed on the 19th,” he said.

“I’m here to tell Mr. President that I’m back and have also resumed my responsibility as Governor of Rivers State.

“It was a father and son discussion, telling him thank you and the areas he should guide me properly, so we don’t have a crisis again.”

Fubara’s meeting with Tinubu came amid expectations on how he would navigate the state’s political landscape after months of instability.
