The group said while the new ₦70,000 minimum wage has been implemented for workers, pensioners remain excluded from the adjustment.

In a statement issued in Abuja, National President Frederick Eguaoba said the Federal Government had approved ₦58 billion for the increase but the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation have yet to release the funds.
“Union officials are demanding the release of the ₦58 billion approved by the President to ensure compliance and payment of seven to eight months’ arrears owed pensioners,” Eguaoba stated.

The NUP president warned that pensioners would take to the streets if the government fails to act.
“We are giving government two weeks to meet our demands or we will protest. PTAD should ensure the release of the funds by the Finance Ministry and Accountant-General’s Office,” he declared.
