Tinubu Departs Abuja for 10-Day Working Vacation in Europe

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will today depart Abuja for a 10-day working vacation in Europe, the State House has confirmed.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President is scheduled to spend the period between France and the United Kingdom before returning to Nigeria. The trip is part of his 2025 annual leave.

According to the presidency, Tinubu’s departure comes after weeks of a demanding schedule that included major economic reforms, policy directives, and international engagements.

Reform Milestones Before Departure

This week, the president announced that Nigeria recorded ₦20.59 trillion in non-oil revenue collections between January and August 2025, representing a 40.5 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024. Government officials credited the growth to reforms expanding the tax net and digitising compliance.

On Wednesday, Tinubu directed the implementation of mandatory health insurance across all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), stressing that while federal workers must be enrolled under the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), businesses must not be unfairly burdened as the law is enforced.

International Engagements

Tinubu has also been active on the global stage. In August 2025, he paid a state visit to Brazil, securing bilateral agreements in aviation, trade, and science, while also holding talks on the return of Petrobras, the Brazilian oil giant, to Nigeria’s energy sector. The visit additionally paved the way for direct Lagos–São Paulo flights by Air Peace.

Prior to Brazil, the president attended the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan, where he pushed for stronger global collaboration.

In June and July, Tinubu toured Saint Lucia and Brazil, advancing South–South cooperation and promoting Nigeria as a trusted partner on global platforms.
