The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) says its membership has surged to over 800,000, with several prominent politicians defecting to the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

State Publicity Secretary, Luckyman Egila, announced the development during a weekend press conference in Port Harcourt, describing the party as “a beautiful bride” attracting major political figures.

Egila named two former governors, Rotimi Amaechi and Celestine Omehia, among the latest entrants, alongside former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus.

“These persons have left their former parties and are now full members of the ADC,” Egila said. “You can only become a member when you register with the party and receive a membership card — all of them have done so.”

Others who have joined the party include former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Austin Okpara, and former Minister of Transport, Dr Abiye Sekibo.

Egila stressed that the calibre of these politicians underscores ADC’s growing influence in Rivers politics. “You can’t write these people off. They are all members of the ADC,” he added.
