In a strategic push to improve Nigeria’s pharmaceutical sector, the Association of Industrial Pharmacists of Nigeria (NAIP) will establish new drug research and quality control centres in Kano, Anambra, and Lagos.
These centres will be located in coordinated pharmaceutical wholesale zones. They aim to serve as central hubs for drug distribution and quality checks, helping to protect public health and strengthen supply chains.
Pharm. Bankole Aminu Ezebuilo, NAIP’s National Chairman, revealed this in a statement. He said the groundbreaking ceremony for the Anambra centre had already taken place in Oba, located in Idemili South Local Government Area.
“It is heartwarming to see this foundation laid in Anambra,” Ezebuilo stated. “These centres will transform how drugs are handled, verified, and distributed across Nigeria.”
Ensuring Drug Quality and Safety
Ezebuilo explained that the centres will carry out strict quality assessments on all incoming pharmaceuticals before they are distributed. According to him, this move will protect consumers and raise the standard of medicines available in the country.

He added that the project supports NAIP’s wider goal of eliminating counterfeit drugs, strengthening regulatory compliance, and positioning Nigeria as a global player in pharmaceutical production.
Improving Local Drug Systems
This initiative will also improve transparency and control in the national drug distribution system. Moreover, NAIP aims to promote locally driven research, support evidence-based healthcare, and build a more reliable pharmaceutical supply chain.
