The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has urged the Super Eagles to remain calm, disciplined, and focused as they aim for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.
SWAN’s national President, Isaiah Benjamin, issued the advice through a statement released by Secretary-General Ambassador Ikenna Okonkwo on Wednesday. “There is no need to be confrontational with teammates, opponents, or match officials. Mental resilience and psychological balance are crucial at this stage,” he said.
Reacting to the reported incident between Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman during Nigeria’s 4-0 victory over Mozambique, Benjamin called on all stakeholders, including the media, to continue supporting the team. He encouraged journalists to highlight positive narratives, noting that the Super Eagles’ success is a collective national achievement.

Benjamin advised the players to reassess strategies ahead of the quarter-finals, stressing that the competition would become more demanding. “To win the title, you must be ready to defeat any team, no matter how strong. The Super Eagles have abundant talent, but the technical crew and officials must collaborate and approach upcoming games with the right mindset,” he said.
The SWAN president emphasized that mental balance, discipline, and composure on the pitch are key for continued success. He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to clinch the continental title, highlighting Nigeria’s unbeaten run since the tournament began in December.
Benjamin noted that Nigeria has become one of the major attractions of AFCON 2025. Fans across Africa and globally have praised the team for its purposeful style of play, particularly during the Round of 16 match against Mozambique.
