The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) on Tuesday lost two members of the House of Representatives to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), marking another round of defections in the lower chamber.

Hon. Peter Akpanke, representing Obanliku/Obudu/Bekwara Federal Constituency of Cross River State, and Hon. Paul Nnamchi, representing Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency of Enugu State, announced their defections during plenary.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, read the lawmakers’ letters of defection before the chamber. In their separate letters, both Akpanke and Nnamchi cited internal crises and unresolved leadership challenges within their former parties as key reasons for their decision to leave.

They also expressed confidence in the leadership of the APC and declared their intention to support the policies and programmes of the APC-led Federal Government.

The announcement was met with applause from APC lawmakers, while Speaker Abbas welcomed the new members to the party and commended them for what he described as a “bold and strategic move.”

With the latest defections, the APC further strengthens its majority in the lower legislative chamber.
