Nigerians Have Lost Trust in Political Elite – ADC

By Rafiyat Sadiq
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that Nigerians no longer have confidence in the country’s political elite.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the remark on Tuesday during an interview on The Morning Brief, a programme aired on Channels Television.

Abdullahi said the political class, irrespective of party affiliation, had failed to show concern for the plight of ordinary Nigerians, leading to widespread distrust.

“The political elite, regardless of party affiliation, has lost the trust of the people. Why are we so preoccupied and behaving in such a way that Nigerians begin to look at the entire political elite, across the divides, and think that we don’t care about what they are going through?” he asked.

He argued that Nigerians are now more interested in tangible actions rather than political manoeuvres.

“The only thing that will matter to Nigerians now is whatever we are doing. The political elite, generally, regardless of our party affiliation or orientation, have more or less lost the trust of the people,” he stated.

The ADC spokesman also criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of abandoning its responsibility to govern.
“The ruling party itself has abandoned the primary purpose of being elected. They’ve abandoned governance and are in full political throttle. Maybe that’s what is causing the pressure for the PDP to do what they are doing, or it’s part of the game they are all playing together,” Abdullahi added.
