Ekiti APC Faction Rejects Afuye as Oyebanji’s Running Mate

A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, operating under the name Concerned APC Patriots (CAP), has opposed the nomination of Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye as Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s running mate for the 2026 governorship election.

In a statement released in Ado Ekiti on Monday, the group’s convener, Joshua Ademola, described Afuye’s choice as unsuitable, alleging that she lacks the capacity for the role.

Ademola said many responsibilities expected of the deputy governor, such as representing the governor at official meetings in Abuja, were often assigned to other officials or left unattended. He also questioned her educational qualifications, describing her as a liability to the administration over the past three years.

“The position of deputy governor is strategic. Apart from assisting the governor, the occupant can assume the office if the governor is absent. We cannot afford to have someone unfit for the role,” the statement read.

The group stressed that it was not opposed to selecting another woman, retaining the nomination in Ekiti South Senatorial District, or micro-zoning it to Ikere Ekiti but insisted that a more educated and capable candidate should be considered.
