Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His defection was announced on Friday by the National Chairman of the APC, Nentawe Yilwatda, in a post on social media.
Yilwatda described Mutfwang’s decision to join the ruling party as a boost to the APC, saying it reflected the party’s growing political strength.
While details of the governor’s defection and the circumstances surrounding the move were not immediately made public, the APC chairman formally received him into the party.

“On behalf of the National Working Committee and the entire family of the All Progressives Congress, I warmly welcome His Excellency, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, into our great party, the APC,” Yilwatda said.
He added that the governor’s decision was “a bold and patriotic step” aimed at serving the people of Plateau State and Nigeria, noting that the move signified a commitment to inclusive development, peace and prosperity in the state.
Yilwatda assured Mutfwang of the party’s readiness to work closely with him to advance the interests of Plateau State and deliver dividends of democracy to its people.
The development follows an earlier announcement by Mutfwang of his resignation from his former party amid speculations that he was set to join the APC.

In his resignation letter, Mr Mutfwang expressed gratitude to the PDP for the platform it provided and acknowledged the support of party leaders, members, and supporters throughout his tenure.
“I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me with the political platform to participate in the democratic process.
I acknowledge the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me,” he stated.
The governor explained that the decision was driven by prevailing political realities and his personal commitment to impactful leadership and service delivery, which he believes may be better pursued on a different platform.
