Plateau State Governor Caleb Muftwang is set to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr. Istifanus Nwansat, Political Adviser to the governor, told newsmen on Monday in Abuja that the decision to join the APC was motivated by the ongoing crisis within the PDP, which he described as making the party an unsuitable platform for political contests.
He added that the defection would align Plateau State with President Bola Tinubu’s political and governance direction.
“From the assessment and analysis of all available options, we have concluded that the safest decision for us today, with the least risk, is to move into the APC. That is why the governor is moving into the APC,” Nwansat said.

He further stated that the move was intended to enable the governor to lead his people in alignment with the President’s agenda.
“This is because, even though members of the PDP, we appreciate and recognise the efforts of Mr. President in putting things right,” Nwansat said.
Support for Tinubu’s Re-election
Meanwhile, Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, asserted that no opposition coalition is capable of defeating President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the Adegbonmire Renewed Hope Mega Empowerment programme in Ondo Central, he said allies of the President were already mobilising to secure what he described as an “overwhelming victory.”

“Where’s the opposition? I don’t know of any. Who is that? The coalition? What’s their name? Let’s get serious,” Adegbonmire said, questioning the credibility of parties such as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
During the programme, 900 persons were empowered, an initiative the senator said was aimed at supporting both the re-election of President Tinubu and local government development.
“So this empowerment is in support of both the President and the state government. The only party in Nigeria, since he cannot do everything himself, those of us who are supporting him must ensure people feel the impact of Mr. President,” Adegbonmire added.
The defection of Governor Muftwang to the APC marks a significant shift in Plateau State politics and reflects the broader trend of political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
