Why I Resigned as Kano Deputy Gov - Gwarzo

The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, resigned on March 27, 2026, amid a political feud with the State Assembly, which had leveled allegations against him.

In his resignation letter dated March 27, 2026, Gwarzo said the decision was reached “after careful consultations and deep reflection” of his current experience.

He said the decision is voluntary and taken in line with his commitment to peace, stability and overall interest of the state, adding that it “should not be construed as an admission of any wrongdoing.”

Gwarzo cited a desire to prevent distractions and allow the government to function effectively.

“In view of the prevailing circumstances, I have taken this step in the spirit of responsibility and statesmanship, to allow the government and the State to move forward without undue distractions.

“This resignation is made voluntarily and in good faith. It should not be construed as an admission of any wrongdoing, but rather as a conscious decision in the interest of institutional integrity, democratic values and public service,” Gwarzo stated in his resignation letter, addressed to the governor of the state, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The resignation follows a reported rift with the State Assembly. Several factors contributed to the political tension. Gwarzo resigned amid reported impeachment plots by the Kano State House of Assembly.

Allegations against him were reportedly linked to his refusal to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) with Governor Yusuf.

The ex-deputy governor’s supporters described the move as a mature act to ease tension, prioritizing stability over personal position.

Following the resignation, discussions about a successor have begun, revealing potential new political alignments.

Leading contenders reportedly include the Speaker of the State Assembly, Ismaila Jibril Falgore, and the APC’s 2023 deputy candidate, Murtala Sule Garo.
