Tehran Morgue Video Triggers Alarm Over Iran’s Protest Crackdown

Iran is facing renewed concern after a video showed dozens of bodies outside a morgue near Tehran. The footage has raised fears of a deadly crackdown on protesters.

Agence France-Presse (AFP) verified the video, which was filmed at the Kahrizak forensic centre south of the capital. It shows bodies wrapped in black bags and lying on the ground. People believed to be relatives can be seen searching among them.

The video appeared online on Saturday. Analysts geolocated it the following day.

Human rights groups say the images point to rising deaths linked to ongoing protests. Iran Human Rights, a Norway-based group, said the footage suggests a high death toll from nationwide demonstrations. Another group, Hengaw, reported seeing blood-stained bodies both inside and outside the morgue.

Activists accuse security forces of firing live bullets at protesters during nearly two weeks of unrest. Authorities have also restricted internet access, making it harder to confirm events on the ground.

Iran has seen repeated protests in recent years. Many stem from economic hardship, political pressure, and social restrictions. Security forces often respond with force, drawing criticism from rights groups.

During past unrest, authorities have limited media access and online communication. They often deny reported death figures and blame foreign actors for the protests.

The latest video has renewed calls for transparency. Rights groups are urging Iranian authorities to release accurate casualty figures and allow independent investigations.
