The visit follows the announcement by the refinery that it has finally hit its name plate capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, becoming the largest single train refinery in the world.

Within its two years of official commencement of operations in Lekki area of Lagos State, Dangote Refinery has according to industry analysts, rewritten the history of Nigeria’s petroleum market landscape, as it is significantly reviving domestic refining, causing a shift from reliance on importation and engendering competition in the downstream sector.

The $20 billion refinery, which now captures about 62 per cent of domestic supply of Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol), according to recent NMDPRA report, is advancing plans to expand its refining capacity to 1.4 million barrels.

This is the first time top executives of the NNPC is visiting the refinery officially, signalling stronger future collaboration.

The NNPC is an investor in Dangote Refinery, owning a 7 per cent  stake in the 650,000 bpd capacity plant.
