Oluremi Tinubu Launches Menstrual Hygiene Drive for Schoolgirls

First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has launched the “Flow With Confidence” nationwide initiative to distribute menstrual hygiene packs to schoolgirls.

Speaking at the launch in Gombe State, Mrs. Tinubu said the programme would empower young girls by promoting knowledge, dignity, and confidence through safe menstrual hygiene.

She stressed that no girl should miss school because she cannot afford sanitary products. “It is unacceptable that our girls still face challenges during their menstrual cycle, especially those in rural communities who lose school days every month,” she said in a statement by her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi.

According to the First Lady, many schoolgirls resort to unsafe alternatives or stay home, which affects their academic progress and, in some cases, leads to dropping out of school.

The initiative, under the Education framework of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), will provide each state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with 10,000 packs of disposable sanitary pads. These will be distributed by State First Ladies and RHI coordinators to vulnerable girls in rural areas.

“Today, I will hand over 10,000 packs of disposable sanitary pads to the First Lady of Gombe State. Each beneficiary will receive a one-year supply,” Mrs. Tinubu announced. She called on traditional rulers, religious and community leaders to ensure the pads reach the intended beneficiaries.

Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, and Minister of State for Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, pledged federal support to expand the programme so more underserved girls can benefit.

Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya praised the initiative and commended Mrs. Tinubu’s interventions in health, agriculture, education, and economic empowerment.

Earlier, the First Lady opened the maiden Gombe State Health Summit, urging Nigerians to view health as a driver of prosperity and development.
