Nyako Dumps ADC, Returns to APC in Adamawa

Adamawa governor Ahmadu Fintiri welcomes Abdulaziz Nyako back to APC

A former senator and ex-ADC gubernatorial candidate in Adamawa state, Abdulaziz Nyako, has defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Nyako, who represented Adamawa Central Senatorial District from 2015 to 2019, announced his return to the APC on Saturday when Ahmadu Fintiri visited his residence in Yola, the state capital.

“I am back in the APC,” Nyako, popularly known as ‘Commander’, said.

Speaking during the visit, Fintiri described Nyako as a formidable political figure whose return would strengthen the APC in Adamawa.

“As the leader of the party, having taken full charge, I should look for formidable people like Commander so that we can build this party together in the state and produce good leaders, particularly in line with Mr President’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

Fintiri added that Nyako is now a registered member of the APC.

Nyako, son of former Adamawa governor Murtala Nyako, was elected to the Senate on the APC platform before he later defected to the ADC.

He also contested the 2019 governorship election in Adamawa as the ADC candidate.

The Adamawa Central Senatorial District, which he represented, comprises seven local government areas.

His defection comes amid a leadership crisis that rocked the ADC in Adamawa last year, with rival factions loyal to Babachir Lawal and Aishatu Dahiru clashing over the party’s state chairmanship.

The dispute led to the emergence of parallel executives headed by Sadiq Dasin and Saidu Komsiri.

In October, the national working committee (NWC) of the ADC recognised Dasin as the party’s chairman in Adamawa.
