Minister Reaffirms FG’s Commitment to Scaling Housing Investment via PPPs

In a move to bridge the national housing gap, the Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for housing investment to thrive.

The Minister made this known while meeting with Dr. Olayemi Rotimi Shodinmu, CEO of Shelter Advisory Services and convener of the upcoming Renewed Hope Housing PPP Summit. The visit was to brief the Minister on preparatory progress for the event.

“Our Ministry is proud to partner with Shelter Advisory Services for the 2nd Edition of the Renewed Hope Housing PPP Summit, holding on the 12th of May 2026 at the Yar’Adua Centre,” Dr. Darma stated.

Describing housing as far more than mere shelter, he emphasized its role as a cornerstone for economic growth, job creation, and national development.

“That is why, under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we are strengthening Public-Private Partnerships to unlock investment, scale delivery, and expand access to affordable homes,” he explained.

In his remarks, Summit convener Dr. Olayemi Rotimi noted that the event aims to move the housing conversation beyond strategy toward sustained delivery—translating policy clarity into investable projects and measurable impact for Nigerian cities and communities.

“The Summit recognises Public–Private Partnerships (PPPs) as the most viable pathway for mobilising long-term finance, aligning public land and infrastructure with private sector expertise, and delivering housing at the scale Nigeria urgently requires,” he said.

A technical training workshop for heads of housing agencies and developers will take place the day after the summit, focusing on leveraging PPPs and joint ventures for housing development. The workshop is designed to help structure housing financing and implement viable housing PPPs to accelerate housing delivery across Nigeria.

The summit’s keynote address will be delivered by Elena Panaritis, Founder of Thought4Action and an international expert in property rights reform, informal economies, and PPP-driven housing development.

According to a statement by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Badamasi Haiba, Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to attend the event as Special Guest of Honour.
