The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has elevated 68 legal practitioners to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
The decision was taken during the committee’s 174th plenary session held on Thursday in Abuja, chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Akan.

In the academic category, Prof. Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri was also elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
The SAN rank is the highest professional distinction for legal practitioners in Nigeria.
It is conferred on lawyers who have demonstrated excellence, integrity and outstanding contributions to the legal profession through advocacy, legal scholarship or service to the administration of justice.
The prestigious title is awarded by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee after a rigorous screening process that assesses applicants’ professional competence, ethical conduct, courtroom experience and contributions to the development of the law.
Those elevated are entitled to wear the distinctive silk gown, often referred to as “taking silk,” and enjoy recognition as senior members of the Nigerian Bar.
