The Kogi State Government has confirmed the abduction of 24 children from an orphanage, raising fresh concerns over security in the state.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, April 26, 2026, saw armed men storm the facility and take the children to an unknown destination.
Confirming the development, the State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, described the attack as “unfortunate and disturbing,” assuring residents that security agencies have been fully mobilised to secure the children’s release.
“We condemn in strong terms the abduction of innocent children from an orphanage. The government is working closely with security operatives to ensure their safe return,” he said.
Fanwo added that efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators, stressing that the government will not relent until the children are safely reunited with their families and caregivers.

The Kogi State Police Command also confirmed the incident, with its spokesperson noting that a joint operation involving multiple security agencies has been launched.
Authorities say the operation is focused on rescuing the abducted children and bringing those responsible to justice.
