Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has revealed that he broke down in tears during a visit to communities in Enugu Ukwu and Aguleri because of the poor road conditions and lack of basic amenities.
Speaking at the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship campaign rally in Anambra East on Wednesday, Soludo said the level of neglect he witnessed in those areas deeply moved him.
He explained that his administration remains committed to inclusive governance, promising that no community in the state would be left behind if he wins re-election.
“I Cried Because of the Suffering” – Soludo
The governor narrated how the situation in Enugu Otu and Enugu Ukwu Aguleri made him emotional.
“The oldest man in Enugu Otu told me that they needed a tarred road. I was at Enugu Ukwu Aguleri, that was where I cried publicly,” Soludo said. “We drove for almost one and a half hours, and it was the worst road I had ever seen.”

He said he asked the residents about hospitals, electricity, and pipe-borne water, only to learn they had none.
According to him, the children in those communities lined the road holding cardboard signs listing the things they lacked , from classroom furniture to teachers and proper roofing.
Transformations After the Tears
Soludo noted that on a later visit, the scene had completely changed.
“The last time I went there, I saw a solar-powered borehole project running, power lines installed, and a brand-new general hospital with doctors and medical staff,” he said.
He added that instead of holding placards listing their problems, schoolchildren danced and waved as they welcomed him.
“The first time I went, I cried. The second time I went, I laughed,” he said. “The terrain there makes road construction very expensive, but you can’t go to a people and say there’s no hope. Our duty is to give hope.”
