Heavy Security Presence in Edo Over Black Axe 7/7 Anniversary

By Esther Ososanya

Security forces have stepped up patrols in Benin City and across Edo State after receiving intelligence on planned cult activities. The alert follows reports that the Black Axe confraternity intends to mark its annual 7/7 celebration.

To prevent unrest, officers have been stationed at black spots and other sensitive locations.

Edo State Police spokesman, Moses Yamu, said the command received credible information about groups planning violence on July 7.

He said the commissioner of police, Monday Agbonika, has warned owners of hotels, bars, and lounges not to allow cult-related gatherings. Any business that does will face legal action.
