Galatasaray Smashes Transfer Record with €75m Osimhen Signing

By Esther Ososanya

Galatasaray has made history by completing a €75 million permanent transfer for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli shattering the Turkish Super Lig transfer record and sending a clear message ahead of the new European season.

The fee eclipses the league’s previous record Fenerbahçe’s €20 million move for Youssef En-Nesyri by a staggering 275%, making Osimhen not only the most expensive signing in Turkish football history but also the centerpiece of Galatasaray’s Champions League ambitions.

The 26-year-old signed a four-year contract with a 10% sell-on clause, following a sensational loan spell that saw him net 26 league goals and lead Galatasaray to a domestic double.

After weeks of speculation, the Istanbul giants officially unveiled the deal on Thursday, with head coach Okan Buruk confirming the striker’s arrival after previously hinting at a major announcement.

Osimhen’s Impact by the Numbers

Osimhen dominated Turkish football last season:

  • 26 goals in 30 Super Lig matches (1 goal every 89.4 minutes)
  • 138 total shots with an 18.8% conversion rate
  • 5 additional goals in the Turkish Cup, including a brace in the final against Trabzonspor

His clinical finishing and physical dominance proved decisive as Galatasaray lifted both league and cup titles.

Despite serious interest from Manchester United and Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal, Osimhen opted to remain in Istanbul, citing club vision and stability as key factors.

His arrival marks Galatasaray’s fourth major signing of the transfer window, following the acquisitions of Jakobs, Frankowski, and Sané a clear sign that the club is preparing to make a statement in Europe.
