Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Monday appeared before the Kaduna State High Court as proceedings resumed in his trial filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
In a video shared by ARISE NEWS, El-Rufai, dressed in an agbada, was seen making his way through a crowded court corridor filled with supporters, lawyers and other attendees.
Before entering the courtroom, he exchanged brief remarks with an associate about the African Democratic Congress (ADC) national convention scheduled for Tuesday.
“So tomorrow is our convention, right?” he asked.
“Insha Allah,” the associate replied.
BACKGROUND
The exchange reflects El-Rufai’s continued engagement in opposition politics despite the ongoing court cases.
El-Rufai is standing trial alongside Amadu Sule on charges including abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud and conferring undue advantage.
He is also facing a separate 10-count charge before the Federal High Court in Kaduna, bordering on alleged abuse of office, money laundering and fraud involving ₦579.6 million and $1.1 million.
The former governor has denied all allegations.

Since returning to Nigeria from Cairo, Egypt, on February 12, 2026, he has been attending to multiple cases in court.
He was initially held by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before being transferred to ICPC custody. He was later granted temporary release on compassionate grounds to attend his mother’s burial and subsequently returned to custody.
The Federal High Court in Kaduna has fixed April 14 for the hearing of his bail application — the same day as the ADC convention.
The ADC has alleged that the charges against him are politically motivated, a claim the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected.
