As Muslims celebrate the feast of Eid-El-Kabir, Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on Nigerians to embrace peace, unity and patience amidst challenges in the country.
Shettima made the call while speaking to newsmen shortly after observing the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the Ramat Square Eid Ground in Maiduguri, Borno State, Wednesday.
According to a statement by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima emphasised the need for the citizens to imbibe the spirit of unity and eschew all forms of acts that threaten peaceful coexistence.
“Our message to Nigerians is to continue praying for peace and for mutual understanding amongst all Nigerians,” Shettima stated.
The Vice President urged political leaders and citizens to prioritise national interests over personal or partisan concerns, emphasising the need for unity and peaceful cooperation in preserving the country’s democratic journey and development goals.
“And as we enter the political phase, there is a need for maturity, forbearance, and generosity of spirit in our political interactions,” he added.
