A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday announced the expulsion of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal.
The announcement came hours after violent scenes unfolded at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, where opposing blocs clashed over control of the party’s headquarters.
According to ARISE News live videos, security operatives aligned with both Wike and the governors engaged in a tense confrontation, with teargas reportedly fired by both sides around the complex.
The standoff intensified as Governor Makinde arrived with the newly elected National Secretary, Taofeek Arapaja, while Wike remained with Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled National Secretary who insists his tenure runs until December 8, 2025.

Meanwhile, the Wike-backed faction also dissolved the party executives in Oyo, Bauchi, Ekiti, Zamfara, Edo and Lagos states.
Party leaders have since expressed concern over the escalating crisis, accusing the police of failing to remain neutral as the opposition party’s leadership struggle deepens.
At its meeting on Tuesday at the national secretariat in Abuja, the Wike faction’s NEC dissolved the state executive councils in Oyo, Bauchi, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, and Ekiti states, directing the formation of caretaker committees and the holding of new congresses.
A communiqué issued after the meeting, read by embattled National Secretary Senator Sam Anyanwu, alleged violation of Articles 58(1) and 59(1) of the PDP constitution. These include anti-party activities, disobedience to court orders, and conduct bringing the party into disrepute.
“NEC approved the commencement of disciplinary procedures against the following: Adolphus Wabara, Olabode George, Ben N. Obi, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, Bala Mohammed, Oluseyi Makinde, Dauda Lawal, Taofiq Arapaja, Setonji Koshoedo, Okechukwu Obiechina Daniel, Woyengikuro Daniel, Mohammed Kadade Suleiman, Emmanuel Ogidi, Sumaila Adamu Burga, Umar Sani, Udom Emmanuel, and Emmanuel Enorden,” part of the communiqué read.
