Court Rejects Alleged Terrorists’ Negotiator Tukur Mamu’s Third Bail Application

The Federal High Court in Abuja has again refused to grant bail to alleged terrorists’ negotiator, Tukur Mohammed Mamu.

Justice Mohammed Umar, in a ruling delivered on Wednesday, dismissed Mamu’s third bail request, citing the prosecution’s diligence in pursuing the case.

While acknowledging Mamu’s health concerns, the judge directed the Department of State Services (DSS) to allow him to receive medical treatment at any hospital chosen by his defence team.

The court further ordered that Mamu be granted access to his family members.

Justice Umar noted that bail could only be considered if the prosecution failed to show diligence, adding that the Federal Government had remained consistent in prosecuting the matter.

Mamu was arrested on September 7, 2022, at Cairo International Airport by Egyptian security officials before being extradited to Nigeria.

He was arraigned on March 21, 2023, on a 10-count charge bordering on terrorism financing and related offences.

The prosecution alleged that Mamu facilitated ransom payments between families of victims of the March 2022 Abuja–Kaduna train attack and Boko Haram terrorists, allegedly for personal financial gain.
