An Abuja High Court on Thursday formally struck out the suit against Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan after the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation filed a Notice of Discontinuance.

Court documents showed that the notice, dated December 12, 2025, brought an end to the criminal defamation and other related charges instituted against the senator over comments she allegedly made during a televised interview.

The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/195/2025, had generated widespread public interest since it was filed.

He noted that the decision underscored the need for restraint in the exercise of prosecutorial powers.

“The court hopes that this development will encourage restraint, promote healing and strengthen respect for the rule of law in our democratic system,” Justice Oji said.

Counsel representing the Federal Government, in open court, confirmed the withdrawal of the case.

“On behalf of the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation, a notice of discontinuance has been filed in accordance with the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act. The decision was taken in the interest of justice and to sustain public confidence in the legal system,” the prosecutor stated.

Reacting after the proceedings, Akpoti-Uduaghan described the outcome as a vindication, saying it reaffirmed her confidence in the rule of law.

She said, “Today’s outcome reinforces my belief in the rule of law. I remain committed to serving my constituents and to the defence of democratic rights.”

The senator also expressed appreciation to her legal team and supporters for standing by her throughout the case.
