APC Slams PDP Over Call for Foreign Intervention

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for what it described as an irresponsible call for foreign intervention in Nigeria’s internal affairs.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka criticised the PDP’s new factional chairman, Tanimu Turaki, who urged foreign powers to intervene in Nigeria to stop the alleged “Christian genocide” and to safeguard democracy amid the crisis in the party.

APC Describes PDP Appeal as ‘Reckless and Unpatriotic’

Morka said Turaki’s remarks reflected desperation and confusion, accusing him of lacking the capacity to manage the deepening divisions within his party.

He said Nigerians had expected Turaki to prioritise peace-building by engaging the PDP’s feuding factions in dialogue instead of heightening tensions with inflammatory rhetoric.

‘Dangerous to National Security’ — APC

“Turaki’s first official act as factional chairman was his call for foreign invasion of Nigeria as a solution to the self-inflicted internal crisis of his PDP,” Morka said. “This is not only reckless and unpatriotic but shameless, and it poses a dangerous threat to national security and sovereignty.”

He added that despite what he described as the PDP’s “ruthless subversion” of opposition parties during its 16 years in power, it never resorted to inviting foreign intervention in internal political disputes.

APC Calls PDP’s Move a ‘Pitiful Distraction’

The APC spokesperson said the ruling party was confident the international community would disregard the PDP’s appeal, dismissing it as a diversion from what he termed the party’s failed internal democracy and ongoing fragmentation.

Morka insisted that the call for foreign involvement only underscored the PDP’s current instability and inability to resolve its own crisis.
