APC says U.S. Support Against Terrorism Will Not Undermine Nigeria’s Sovereignty

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says cooperation between Nigeria and the United States in the fight against terrorism does not threaten the country’s sovereignty.

The National publicity secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, said the federal government and the United States are working closely to address terrorism and end the violence that has claimed lives and caused widespread hardship across the country.

Morka spoke on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television.

“What we know is that the US government and the Nigerian authorities are coordinating very closely in any effort to defeat terror in our country,” he said.

He described terrorism as a major source of pain and suffering for Nigerians, noting that innocent citizens have been killed indiscriminately.

Morka said President Bola Tinubu remains determined to take all necessary steps to eliminate those responsible for terror attacks.

He dismissed suggestions that the involvement of the United States could amount to a foreign invasion, stressing that Nigeria is fully involved in all decisions related to the collaboration.

“I understand those concerns, but in many cases, the concerns are valid where the country where these boots step in is not at the table in making decisions,” he said.

Nigeria and Us Working in Close Coordination

He added that such concerns do not apply to the current situation, as Nigeria and the United States are working in close coordination.

“That’s not the case here. This is a closely coordinated effort between our government and the authorities in the United States,” Morka said.

According to him, any action taken would be based on agreements jointly reached by both governments.

“So whatever is agreed at the table is what will be done on the ground,” he said, adding that the focus remains on pushing back groups responsible for killing Nigerians.

On Tuesday, the United States deployed a “small team” of troops to Nigeria following recent security cooperation between both countries.
