2027: Makinde Picks Ibrahim Adamu Bala as APM Running Mate

Governor Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), has selected Ibrahim Adamu Bala as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election, completing the party’s presidential ticket.

Information uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal shows that Bala, 51, is from Bauchi State, giving the party a North-South balance for the presidential ticket ahead of the general election.

Sources familiar with the nomination process said Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed played a key role in Bala’s emergence, recommending him during consultations aimed at strengthening the party’s support base, particularly in the North-East.

Although Bala’s name has appeared on the INEC portal as the APM vice-presidential candidate, neither the party nor Makinde has officially announced the nomination.

Makinde’s Presidential Bid

Makinde, who is serving his second and final term as governor of Oyo State, declared his intention to contest the presidency on May 14 during a joint rally organised by his faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APM at Mapo Hall in Ibadan.

The declaration came after both groups signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the PDP South-West Zonal Secretariat in Ibadan.

Speaking at the rally, Makinde said the alliance would present candidates for all elective positions, from the presidency to state Houses of Assembly, and called on opposition parties to work together ahead of the 2027 elections.

Reform Agenda

On May 30, Makinde formally accepted the APM presidential ticket in Ibadan, where he pledged to implement reforms aimed at addressing insecurity, unemployment, hunger and the rising cost of living.

While receiving the party’s Certificate of Return and flag from APM National Chairman Yusuf Dantalle, the governor also promised to restructure Nigeria’s security system by giving states greater authority to respond to security challenges if elected president.
