2027: Ethnic Politics Won’t Derail Tinubu’s Re-Election Bid – APC

FG Clarifies Presidential Pardon Process, Says No Inmate Has Been Released Yet

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed recent calls for opposition parties to adopt ethnic-based strategies in the lead-up to the 2027 presidential election, insisting that such tactics will not affect President Bola Tinubu’s chances of re-election.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Lagos, APC Publicity Secretary, Mr. Seye Oladejo, reacted to comments by Chief Dele Momodu, a former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who urged the opposition to unite and leverage ethnic sentiments to challenge Tinubu in the next election.

Oladejo criticised the proposal, stating that Nigerian voters have moved past identity politics and now prioritise competence and results.

“The days of weaponising ethnicity as a shortcut to power are long gone,” he said. “The electorate has evolved. They are focused on who can deliver results, not who can divide the nation.”

He further commended Momodu who recently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for what he described as a “belated recognition” of Tinubu’s political strength.

Oladejo noted that under President Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria is undergoing reforms aimed at promoting equity, infrastructural development, and economic stability.

“This administration is proving that leadership is about ideas, not identity,” he added.

The APC spokesman also advised Momodu to concentrate on clarifying his own political future rather than offering unsolicited counsel to others.

“Truth be told, political realists have accepted the defeat of the opposition, come 2027, individually and collectively.

The election will be a referendum on competence and performance not on ethnicity or nostalgia,” he said.

The statement comes amid growing political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 general election, with several groups already pledging support for Tinubu’s second term bid.
